Dear 202 Families,
I hope this letter finds you well. Here is an update on our classroom.
Unit of Inquiry
We have begun our unit on Colorado’s economy, history, and government. We will be learning about primary and secondary sources and the reliability of source materials. The Central Idea of this unit is: Primary and secondary sources create a lens through which a region’s history, geography, and economy are expressed and interpreted.
Literacy
Students continue in their book groups, learning to express their opinions based on evidence from the text. They also will read complex informational text as part of our unit of inquiry.
Math
The students are reviewing and learning fractions. Right now, we are comparing fractions using calculations, logic, and mathematical models. See http://www.corestandards.org/Math/Content/4/NF for more information about this math standard.
Behavior
We are experiencing some friskiness with students chatting and leaving their desks at inappropriate times! Please ask your student about this. Are they guilty of these behaviors? Are they a victim of these behaviors? Please emphasize your family’s standards about expected behavior in school.
Valentines
We will have a short (end-of-day 15 minutes) Valentine’s Day celebration on February 12 (since Valentine’s Day is a Sunday). We have a large number of allergies and food restrictions in our class, so we will not eat any treats in class. You may send valentine cards with your student, but please make one for every student if you send them for any. Thank you for understanding. A class roster is attached.
Thank you.
