December 11, 2015
Dear Families,
Almost party time! On December 18, students in 202 are invited to celebrate the end of the semester and last day before break by wearing holiday hats. They also may bring stuffed animals or dolls and the animals and dolls are invited to wear costumes and holiday hats. We will have a blue ribbon for the best hat (store-bought), the best hat (home-made), and the best costume on a stuffie or doll. Student/stuffie-or-doll lookalike hats are encouraged, mostly because I would like to see such a thing.
Congratulations to the winner of the penny harvest – it wasn’t us! We were fourth. Thank you to everyone who helped us collect pennies. The Student Action Committee (several members are from our classroom) will determine where the money raised will best be spent. Our classroom voted to recommend that the money be spent on medical research for issues affecting our students, including epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and diabetes.
We are determined to compete well in the winter Read-a-thon. Students brought their booklets home on Wed and should return them promptly. The Read-a-thon is a way to encourage students to read a LOT during break and to raise money as a side benefit. Please contact me if you have not heard about this. I would like to see 100% participation.
The readers in our classroom are developing into wonderful reading companions for each other! The students have read Rules, Because of Mr. Terupt, Treasure Hunters, and Stargirl, among others. I will send home a list of recommended (by the students) books before break.
We are learning about energy and electricity in science.
This was our final week of p.e. for now. We will have art for the next three weeks.
The students took math interims today. Students by now should be comfortable with multi-digit addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. We ask a lot of these fourth-graders but, from what I can see, they can do it.
Have a great weekend.
Thank you!
