Dear Families,
Well, we made it! That was not anyone’s idea of fun on Wednesday when we had the lockdown but the kids were very calm, even though they experienced some stress. In the weeks to come, please let me know if you see any residual reactions from the students and I will help if I can. We have counselors here at school and I’m here, too.
Thank you to everyone who has sent notes of support. It is so nice of you when I’m sure this was much harder on you than it was on the kids and me. We knew that we were safe. But – clearly your children follow your lead, because they all wrote cards and notes of thanks to the police officers and delivered them on Thursday after school on the playground. My favorite line from one of the cards was, “We were scared but you were there.”
We are back to work. The students are making sure they are able to add and subtract multi-digit numbers. They also are mastering multiplication and division by a variety of methods. For those who do not know their multiplication tables: it’s time.
In science, the students are beginning an inquiry into energy sources. They will write opinion articles about a chosen energy source.
Current book group books in my classroom are: Mr. Lemoncello’s Library, Stargirl, Rules, The Candymakers, Treasure Hunters, and Pip Bartlett’s Guide to Magical Creatures. The students are learning how wonderful it is to read challenging books and discuss them with friends.
We have math interim tests next week.
Thank you!
